this project was almost the same as our first project we did. this time we interviewed teachers and found out about their classes. we used the same shots as we did before but this time we had a better understanding of what was happening in the shots. it was a lot better this time to know how to place the camera and edit the shots well and used good cameras and microphones. it was good to have the tripods and mics because they helped to get the correct sound that we need instead of all the info. the tripods helped us hold the cameras in place while filming so we didn't have to hold them. it was hard to work with some of the people (garrett white) but overall it was good to do this project and to wrap up the year with a project we did well.
during this project we learned how to do a full news program. we not only learned how to do the anchoring job, but we also did the full production. from camera man to director we did everything on each others projects. we learned how to properly move are heads and read to the viewer. it was strange at first to learn how to write the script because we had to use are own words but also use the words from the stories. the most difficult part was anchoring because it is hard to know what you look like when you are on the story.
So far in interviewing i have learned a lot about what to do next time. I learned that i will have to get a lot closer and not shake the camera. next time i will have to get more b roll and longer interviews. it can be difficult to know how much you need but you should know to get more than you think you should. if you think that you might not have any chance at finding good b roll you should think about taking pictures of things and any broll you can so that you can use all that you can. when interviewing try to do the whole interview at one time dont do some of it at noon and some at night because the light can look off and the person could be not thinking about the topic. if you dont have any questions then try to think about anything that can include them in any way. i think my greatest success was editing well and making a good final project.
some people think of editing as the culmination of all of the work into a final product. it is like revising the draft of an essay. if you edit well your final product will look good but if not it can look sloppy or rushed. sometimes it is difficult to edit videos so you have to work around them.
the interview in a story is the most important thing because the story is based around the interview. if your interview is good and includes all the right questions with good answers it will sound good. if it is shaky and muffled it can sound and look sloppy.
sound is what makes the video real. if you have no natural sound your video it can sound cheap or fake because it is awkward. if you include good natural sound you can make your video seem like the viewer is there. sound brings the story to life and makes the b-roll come to life.
If you shoot your interview well and use all the tips you can do well in the interview. If your video is shaky it can look sloppy and not done well. if you use waldo and hold the camera correctly it can increase your production value of your interview. you have to hold the camera correctly so you dont shake the camera.
Researching is very important when you are going to interview someone. If you don't research who you are interviewing there is no way to know what to ask them. Research is very important in getting in touch with the person and can influence everything.
I think it was really cool learning about how you can cause emotion by using images and sounds together. by using images you can see what people are talking about. it is a way to see what other people see and to show amazing things. sometimes things are in so much detail that you can feel the surroundings and feel what is happening
